What Is Knitting?
Knitting is a method in which you create fabric by forming continuous strands of yarn into a looped structure. Knitting is based off two basic stitches, knit and purl. When you combine these two stitches, you can create all kinds of knitted projects. As you advance you can learn to add in many different stitch variations.
With knitting, you are able to make mittens, socks, sweaters, scarves, covers. Basically all you need is two knitting needles and some yarn. This allows the needlecraft to be very portable.
All knitting projects begin with a "cast on" stitch. You will need to cast a specified number of stitches onto to your knitting needles. This will be the base of which you will work your first row. Read more on this and other important instructions by following the links below.
History of Knitting
Knitting has been around long before American settlers. It is believed that it was practiced as far back as Biblical times. It has been noted that knitting existed in the 600's as a means to make stockings and fishnet. The first knitting machine was invented by William Lee in 1589.
